I am Kurt Ebert, Ph.D. and I am your site host. I am a classically trained Psychologist and Neuropsychologist, and I am going against everything I was taught by presenting this web site. I practice outside Philadelphia, PA in the USA. Until 1980 I viewed the Mind and brain as being basically the same thing. In 1980 I read an article in Science by John Lewin that blew my Mind and started the journey that has led to Acupuncture4TheMind (A4M). Believe me, it is not like anything else you have ever encountered.
Lewin reported the findings of another British neurologist (John Lorber) showing that the amount of brain tissue someone has is not at all related to how intelligent they are. This was startling since the orthodox view is that the Mind and its thoughts and memories are held within the brain in some chemical or physical form. Man’s larger and more complex brain is supposedly why we think and animals are less intelligent than us. Lorber found an Oxford University math genius who had almost no brain. Actually the man had about as much brain tissue as the average cat.
I thought that Lewin’s article would revolutionize Psychological and Psychiatric thinking. I was wrong. It was largely ignored and seen as impossible. Psychologists knew that the Mind and brain was the same thing, and the Lewin must be mistaken. As is the case in Medicine and Psychiatry if something cannot be explained it is ignored or ridiculed as preposterous.
Lorber’s findings indicated that we need to consider the possibility that memory, and the Mind itself is of a form as yet unknown to biochemists and physiologists or, maybe, that the Mind and it’s memories are outside the body—extracorporeal.
It has taken years, but an advance in the field of Physics has led Quantum Physicists to now agree. The Mind and brain are different things. The Mind uses the brain to interface with the physical world we live in. The action of the Mind may even create the world we live in. At the very least your Mind creates your reality.
The results of nearly 40 years of private research have culminated in a new method of dealing with the Mind and its problems. Psychology and Psychiatry still believe that everything that is important is in the brain, and that consciousness can be changed with the right coaching and training, or the right chemicals.
In the pecking order of scientific disciplines Philosophy is at the top, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Medicine in that order are next, and Psychiatry and Psychology/Sociology are at the bottom. The pecking order of a group is the arrangement of people according to their status or power within the group. Sadly it will optimistically take 50-100 years for the findings of Physicists, particularly the cutting edge of Physics, Quantum Physics, to trickle down and be incorporated into Psychiatry and Psychology.
My hope is that A4M will speed the trickle down effect and allow Psychology to move significantly up in the pecking order. If the Quantum physicists are correct, nothing we know can exist without consciousness. Nothing. The study of consciousness should be at the forefront of science, not at the bottom of the list.
Psychiatry and Psychology reject my research, including animal studies I had them perform because they did not understand the “method of action”, it is not chemical or traditional. Their testing got the results I predicted. Mouse pain thresholds were significantly increased using the same energetic technique used in A4M. The only exception was that I used a CD player to play the tones, and a soundless energetic emitter to deliver the treatment. Their own findings about my work, using their techniques and their “gold-standard” subjects (mice), were rejected because what they found was impossible in their model of reality. How could playing a CD player that made no sound for a few minutes before and during the experiment possible change anything? They could not believe what they had witnessed. Rather than being curious, they ran from the findings, and refused to continue the research. I must add that their reaction probably had something to do with the fact that the laboratory’s primary source of funding was the pharmaceutical industry.
The Philosopher Plato in 517 B.C. foresaw this problem. In his famous “Allegory of the cave” Plato claimed that knowledge gained through the senses is no more than opinion and that, in order to have real knowledge, we must gain it through reasoning.
In the allegory Plato distinguishes between people who mistake sensory knowledge for the truth and people who really do see the truth. The story goes like this:
The Allegory Setting: Imagine a cave, in which there are several prisoners. The prisoners are chained to rocks, their arms and legs are bound and their head is tied so that they can see only the stone wall in front of them. These prisoners have been here since birth and have never seen outside of the cave.
Behind the prisoners is a fire, and between them is a raised walkway. Outside the cave people walk along this walkway, carrying things like baskets, gourds, plants, animals, and other articles on their heads.
The reality of the cave: Imagine that you are one of the prisoners. You cannot look at anything behind or to the side of you – you must look at the wall in front of you. When people walk along the walkway, you can see shadows of the objects they are carrying cast on to the wall. If you had never seen the real objects ever before, you would believe that the shadows of objects were ‘real’.
Plato suggests that the prisoners would naturally begin a guessing game, trying to predict which shadow would appear next. If one of the prisoners were to correctly guess, the others would praise him and say that he was a master of nature. The shadows were the prisoners’ reality. Plato here presaged Einstein, and now all of Quantum Physics, when Einstein labeled of our sensory reality as a “persistent illusion”.
The Escape: One of the prisoners breaks free of his bindings and leaves the cave. He is shocked at the world he discovers outside the cave and does not believe it can be real. After awhile he becomes used to his new surroundings and he realizes that his former view of reality was wrong. He begins to understand his new world, and sees the Sun is the source of life. He goes on a journey where he discovers the wonders of the world. He realizes that his former view of life and the guessing game he played were useless. Wanting to share is knowledge with his former cave mates he returns to the cave.
The Result: The prisoners, according to Plato, would infer from the returning man’s statements that the journey out of the cave had harmed him and that they should not undertake a similar journey. Plato concludes that the prisoners, if they were able, would reach out and kill him, or anyone who attempted to drag them out of the cave.
My psychiatrist friends no longer talk to me. My work threatens everything they know and have been taught. It threatens their livelihood, which is the biggest taboo. Where would Psychiatrists be without drugs? One Israeli Neurologist I worked with said that while she could not deny what I said, and could do diagnostically, she could not believe it because if she did it would mean that everything she had studied and knew was wrong. At least she was honest.
With Acupuncture4TheMind there are no drugs used to influence the brain. There is no electro shock, or Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TSM). There is no coaching, convincing or practice necessary as in Psychology. There is no evangelical preaching, or “pep talks” as is found with coaches. There is only remembering and changing.
So what is Acupuncture4TheMind (A4M)? In the simplest terms A4M is a new paradigm (model) of how to change the Mind and emotions using the energy system behind Acupuncture. A4M borrows concepts and observations from Philosophy, Psychology, Psychiatry, Quantum Physics, Medicine, Christianity, Hinduism, and Buddhism, but is not like any of them. Like I said, I don’t preach anything. I help people. I have learned that to do so is to reach for the sky, and to do that it is best to stand on the shoulders of giants. Man’s past is full of them.
A4M uses an energetic field created by audio speakers to stimulate the body’s underlying energy system and directly influences the energy of the Mind. This is A4M’s method of action. It is as safe as listening to music on your radio.
For those interested, the energetic field is explained by what is known in Physics as the Aharonov–Bohm effect (A-B effect). It is a quantum mechanical phenomenon in which an electrically charged particle is affected by an electromagnetic potential, despite being confined to a region in which both the magnetic field B and electric field E are zero. Aharonov and Bohm described the field as a “probability wave”.
The implication of the action of the emitter on consciousness is that the Mind and consciousness are Quantum energy phenomena, and that it (the Mind) is really part of the (Dark?) energy spectrum described by Robert Monroe in his book “The Ultimate Journey”. Scientists say that dark energy makes up about 68% of the universe. It is all around us, but we cannot see, feel, or measure it. Monroe was the father of methodologies later developed and used by the U.S. military for espionage purposes, including gathering information about the unknown.
I must give credit to my late brother, Edward C. Ebert, Jr, a brilliant and inquisitive electrical engineer, for pointing me to the A-B effect when I was in the process of determining the best way to stimulate acupuncture points.
An inventive MA level MIT educated physicist friend on mine tested one of the silent emitters in the Physics laboratory at the of University Soul in South Korea. It was the same emitter he had used to successfully cure his wife of Lupus, and his mother of a perforated ear drum. He used the emitter with a CD player and played tone sequences I had supplied to him. Yes, the system used in the laboratory studies of mice works on people too. He was amazed when the laboratory could find no magnetic or electrical fields when the emitter was activated. They only detected background radiation from the universe.
For A4M the brain reacts to the thought energy of the Mind and in so doing links the Mind and the body. Thoughts can be good for us or bad for us. Emotional thought, which is an energy created in our Minds, creates particular disturbances (perturbations) in the energy field of our being. These disturbances can cause us emotional upsets or inadvertently impact the body’s energy system and lead to illness. Medically this is called the “stress reaction”. Stress was first recognized as important by Hans Selye, a Hungarian-Canadian endocrinologist. Selye called the process the “general adaption syndrome” and suggested that stress induced physiological responses precede through the stages of alarm, resistance, and exhaustion, leading to illness.
For those interested in dealing with the impact of their thoughts on their bodies we invite you to explore our sister website: www.The-Tree-Of-Life.com. It offers tone based energetic treatments for over 450 physical problems. It also contains the mouse study I mentioned earlier in this article.
