Where do our thoughts and emotional reactions come from?

We think that we are the authors of the thoughts that come into our Minds and of our reactions to these thoughts. We think that our thoughts are the product of our brain, our perceptions, and our personal and particular life history. Medicine and Science promote this idea when there is no empirical evidence to substantiate it. As a matter of fact, there is clear evidence that our brain has nothing to do with our thoughts, beliefs, and emotions.  The drugs used to influence the brain do not cure emotional problems, but rather block to some extent our awareness.  As soon as the drugs are stopped the problem returns.

The evidence that the brain has nothing to do with our thoughts and Minds has been available for nearly 50 years.  In 1980, Roger Lewin published an article in Science, “Is Your Brain Really Necessary?”. This article was about CT scan studies of people with cerebral cortex damage. Lewin reported the case of a Sheffield University student who had a measured IQ of 126 and achieved first honors in Mathematics, but on CT examination appeared to have no brain. On reexamination his brain was found to line his skull and was be less than 1/4 in thick.  His brain tissue was estimated to be 1-200 grams, or about as much as your average sized cat. A normal adult male brain weights 1350 grams. The rest of the man’s skull was filled with cerebrospinal fluid. How it is possible for this almost brainless person to think is part of a larger question that science cannot answer. The real question is: how is it possible for consciousness to arise in the matter? How is it possible for matter to become self aware?

Amazingly the perspective the we are the source of out thoughts, feelings, and judgements is mostly wrong. Science took a wrong turn when it concluded that genes were the only thing passed on to us by our parents. We inherit our personality, we do not develop it.  We think that we have free will and we do, but our unseen connection to Karmic forces constantly push us and vastly increase the likelihood that we will repeat previous actions and reactions time and time again.  Real change requires that we deal with the unseen energetic forces that direct and largely control our lives and destiny.

How does Acupuncture4TheMind work? The 2007 Nobel prize winner in Neurophysiology, Sir John Eccles of Great Britain, believes that  brain, rather than being the originator of thought is more like a “radio receiver” that tunes into energetic patterns that exist outside of us. In other words, the brain responds to thoughts but does not initiate them. In Eccles’ view, we are energetic receivers that exist within an unseen and undetected kaleidoscopic sea of frequencies (dark energy), and our brains extract, or tune into one channel out of many simultaneously available – like tuning into the sea of unseen TV and radio stations that exist all around us.  Acupuncture4TheMind is energy medicine, it uses no drugs, herbs, or other physical substance. It does nothing to the brain or body.  Using only the magnetic energy from computer speakers, it works on the energy of the Mind, quickly changing the focus of our perceptions, emotions, and actions.

Eccles is not alone in his thoughts about the brain and energies of thought. Robert A. Monroe, a prominent researcher in the field of human consciousness and developer of the popular Hemi-synch technology used by meditators, described the nature of the energies involved in the mind and their role in thought. According to Monroe (Ultimate Journey,2007) thought arises in an energy field (he simply labeled (M)) that is unrecognized by science, an energy field that is common to and operational both within and outside of space-time. Space-time for Monroe is the physical universe we know and can measure. (M) energy is present in varying degrees in all physical matter. One band of this energy Monroe labeled LIFE (Layered Intelligence Forming Energy). In the earth Life system (M) energy is present in increasing concentration from inert matter through microorganisms to Human Minds.  All living organisms use (M) energy to communicate, and animals are more aware of (M) energy than humans who with rare exceptions have no awareness of it at all. The influence of (M) field thought radiation would be overwhelming except for the fact the we only “tune into” parts of the available fields. If there is no alignment with a given frequency there is no reception. Emotional thought have the capacity to instill signals into the physical body which can be misinterpreted by the body, interfering with physical DNA and the energetic functioning of the body. The results of this interference can be increased physical well-being or illness.   Eccles’ view is supported by Eric Kandel, M.D., whose Nobel prize winning research demonstrated that thoughts and memories activate the biophysical mechanisms that turn genes on and off and can change our bodies and cause new brain cells to develop. His work clearly indicates that the Mind and it’s energies, not the brain and nervous system, determine our ultimate fate.

Similarly, David M. Hawkins, M.D., psychiatrist, philosopher and mystic, assumes the same perspective as Eccles in his book Power Versus Force (1995).  For Hawkins thought arises in a “database” of consciousness energy similar to Jung’s “universal unconscious”.  Contained within the extra-mental (outside the Mind) database are the common historical thoughts, reactions, and perceptions of your ancestors and loved ones across history.  They are the basis of our unconscious archetypes or unconsciously adopted “personas”  which influence how we experience and react to life’s events. Our Mind is tuned into specific bandwidths of the energetic database as determined by our karmic inheritance.  For Hawkins, the energies of our thoughts and emotions influence the Mind-Body energetic system of Chinese traditional Medicine.  Since the energy of consciousness directly influences the Body, Hawkins relied heavily on the technique of kinesiology to determine the truth of his work. Truth, by the very nature of it’s essence is more powerful than non-truth.  “The truth will set you free” is a common saying in academic circles that want to promote academic freedom and the power of learning. Many universities have this statement emblazoned on a sign near the entrance of a building. But “the truth will set you free” did not originate in academia – it speaks of a higher form of knowledge than is capable of being learned in a classroom.
